Mahara Wayman
Sales Manager
Peake of Catering, Vancouver, BC
Mahara began her career as an entertainer, acting, singing and dancing her way into the event business. In the late 1980’s she worked with some of the leading theatrical troops in both the Lower Mainland and Whitehorse to produce a wide assortment of shows. She also helped to organize weeklong trips to the Caribbean to promote and star in “Pirate Days”, a customized variety show highlighting each Islands history of Buccaneering.

In 1992, while keeping up her dancing, Mahara made her way into the local tourism industry and joined the boat charter business. There she honed both her people and organizational skills.

In 1995 she joined the Lazy Gourmet and became an Event Planner and Catering Supervisor. This transition to the catering business was a natural progression for her as it allowed her to expand on her knowledge of event planning. She was now able to direct her creative energies towards food and the feeding of the masses.

In 1999 she switched gears and became the Catering Coordinator and Event Planner for the Vancouver Aquarium’s Aqua Host Department. Her artistic flare and ability to work well with others helped Aqua Host become an internationally recognized catering department.

Wanting a new challenge, Mahara joined the Peake of Catering team in 2002. There she has expanded her skills even more as the Sales and Marketing Manager and right hand of Owner and Executive Chef, David Peake. With Peake of Catering, Mahara has designed some of Vancouver’s most well received events: Grey Cup “Party in the Pacific”, a three day event for sponsors and VIP's during the 2005 Grey Cup; the official funeral arrangements and subsequent ceremony for Sgt. Smoky Smith (Canada's oldest WWII vetren) and most recently, the closing Gala for the International Nuclear Physics Conference, that consisted of passed appetizers and a three course plated dinner for 5 on the gounds of the Museum of Anthropology. She has also been instrumental in the redesign of their web site, the implementation of a new catering software program and the coordination of media, radio and print ads.
