Actuaries in smaller insurance companies, or in companies with smaller actuarial staffs, often find it difficult to keep up with current developments and practices. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about current topics, to contribute to the discussion, and to network with actuaries in similar positions. The session will consist of two or more groups at different tables discussing separate topics. Attendees will have the opportunity to change tables midway through the session. Topics to be considered for discussion will include:
• Guaranteed issue products
• Expanded rate justification requirements and other compliance and rate filing issues
• ICD-10
• Affordable Care Act (ACA) risk adjustment, reinsurance and risk corridors
• Minimum loss ratios
• Exchanges and portals
• Accountable care organizations (ACOs) and provider contracting arrangements
• ACA required Medicare Supplement changes (increased cost sharing)
• Demand for self-funding arrangements
• ACA impact on limited benefit and supplemental plans
• Essential benefits solutions.
Other topics may be discussed depending on recent developments and the interests of the attendees.
At the conclusion of the session, attendees will be able to learn about current topics relevant to small health insurers, contribute to discussion and understanding pertaining to these topics and network with actuaries in similar positions as impacted by the topics.
