Tama Murphy is the Director of Certification and Training at The Culinary Institute of America, part of the college’s Continuing Education Division. Ms. Murphy is responsible for business development, planning and management of educational programs for professionals in the foodservice industry. She also is an evaluator and proctor for the ProChef Certification program.
Prior to joining the CIA in 2003, Ms. Murphy spent 20 years in executive roles in corporate Human Resources, Training and Organizational Development. She was responsible for staffing, compensation and benefits, training and organizational development, OSHA and Safety, employee relations, and operations administration. One of Tama’s strengths is increasing the return on investment of organizational initiatives which involve managing human capital.
Ms. Murphy also held positions at IBM, Emerson Electric Corporation, Sefar America and Park Electrochemical/New England Laminates Corporation. In addition, Tama has been an Adjunct and Lecturing Instructor for The Culinary Institute of America, Fordham/Marymount College, Western Connecticut State University and Manhattanville College.
Ms. Murphy held leadership positions in her career including President of the Personnel Management Association of Western Connecticut, Chairperson for the Human Resource Certificate program at Marymount College, officer for American Society of Training and Development and Society for Human Resource Management. In addition, she holds various certifications and honors including the Leadership Award from the Society of Human Resource Management, Certified Compensation Professional, Certified Employee Benefits Specialist, Certified Hospitality Educator, and Certified Culinary Sales Professional. Having received both her Bachelors and Masters degrees from Manhattanville College, Tama was an Honor Scholar who graduated summa cum laude.
